National Diabetic Foot Co-ordinator for Wales and Strategic Lead Podiatrist

I’m the National Diabetic Foot Co-ordinator for Wales and Strategic lead Podiatrist within Cardiff and Vale University Health Board, being responsible for interpreting and developing evidence-based practice into models of care to improve outcomes for patients with diabetic foot disease. I work closely with Diabetes UK Cymru and have undertaken their Clinical champion program.  

I’m particularly keen to see how as professionals we can transfer our knowledge to our patients to help them develop the necessary skills and confidence to make more informed choices about their own health, in an environment conclusive to co-production. This has led to working closely at an all Wales basis and with my colleague Mr David Hughes MBE, to introduce Patient Activation into the consultations with patients attending podiatry services.  

I was awarded an MBE in the new year’s honours list 2020 for services to people with Diabetes.
