Session synopsis: As a consultant breast surgeon, I thought I knew what high quality care looked like. Doing the right thing to the right patient at the right time. I prided myself on my surgical skills and the happy smiles on my patients’ faces when they saw their scars.
And then I got breast cancer myself and I realised how little I knew about the disease I’d spent my life training to treat. I saw first-hand the reality of cancer treatment and the devastating impact it has on every area of your life for many years to come.
I’m going to share with you some of the things I’ve learned, little things you can do to dramatically improve the care you offer every patient.
