International report packed full of insights for NHS Wales

The results of the OECD’s Patient Reported Indication Survey (PaRIS) have been published.

The Welsh Value in Health Centre, now part of DDTIV in the NHS Executive, was commissioned by Welsh Government to co-ordinate, design and deliver Wales’ participation.

Wales is the only nation in the UK to have taken part and it means we are able to benchmark ourselves with 18 other countries around the world.

The flagship report will reveal the healthcare experiences and outcomes of patients living in Wales, aged 45 and over with one or more chronic condition.  More than 7500 Welsh patients’ responses were used.  The survey asked them about their quality of life, physical functioning, psychological well-being and experiences, particularly in a GP practice setting.

75 sampled GP practices in Wales also took part.

Now the OECD PaRIS report has been published, our teams can turn their attentions to our Population Survey.

26,000 patients living in Wales took part, meaning it is the biggest patient identifiable data set that we have ever had.  The OECD PaRIS report used 7,500 patients’ data out of the 26,000.  That means we have an extra 18,500 responses from people of all ages and healthcare experiences in Wales.  This provides us with a huge opportunity to understand the unmet needs of our population along with a better understanding of how to improve the quality of care.

Sarah Puntoni, Senior Programme Lead for the Welsh Value in Health Centre said: “We would like to take this opportunity to thank all the GP practices and their 26,000 patients who took part.

“It was a truly incredible response, and thanks to them we now have an incredible set of person-centred insights.

“We’ll be sharing this data with our key partners in NHS Wales to work together on how we can improve.”
